And the winners are…

I posted a bookish gift guide, a writer’s gift guide, and a giveaway last week. The response was fantastic! I used Rafflecopter to choose two winners, which meant I didn’t have to personally choose anyone. The winners have been chosen. Next year I’ll have to do a couple more giveaways, this was fun!

I wanted to do this, because I appreciate all of the support y’all give me. Whether it’s on here, on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, I love reading your comments, seeing you share me stuff. I love when you let me know you get me in some way. I don’t know if there’s any other reason to do this other than as a way to form a connection.
To know that I’m not just shouting out in a voice, that my voice isn’t lost inside a paperbag. So I do this little thing to show that I care. I’m not sure how else to do it. If I could, I’d give you all hugs, make you a cup of tea or coffee and chat with you about your day. Or binge watch Jessica Jones on Netflix with you. Instead I write poems and short stories and I make videos about books and writing. I try to share stuff that’s interesting and fun. Things that are very me.

2016 I’m going to kick things up a notch. I want to put all of this into a higher gear. I feel that this year has been a little slow for me. I have goals and I want to achieve them.

I made goals at the beginning of the year, I’m going to talk about how they went and what my goals are for 2016 later this month.

My first short story in a long time will be posted this Wednesday. I’m going to be posting more short stories and poetry on here, because I want to share my writing with you, even as I’m working on other larger projects.

I have so much more I want to say, but I’m going to wait to do all of that in a post later this month. Know that I’m out here, trying to connect with you. I’m yelling in the void and I think a few of you see me now. It’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Thanks to everyone who entered and be looking for more giveaways and ways to connect in the future.

And if you’d like to chat with me and other writers, join us on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Twitter. #writestuff TweetChat where writers talk about writing. We’re a group of writers, we talk about it, we love it- some days we hate it- we try to offer support, and we listen. I’m proud of this tribe and I’d for you to come, if that’s your sort of thing. If not, I understand. Maybe something else I cook up in 2016 will be more your style.

Alright, I’ve gone on too long. I’m the girl, who keeps you on the phone much too long, even when you’re said you had to pee 10 minutes ago.

Aloha y’all!

Last Day of NaNo | Win, Lose, or Draw?

Aloha everyone!

As I predicted, I’ve let some dust build up here as I worked on my novel for NaNoWriMo. Let’s knock down the cobwebs and dust off this place, shall we?

2015 winner

I won NaNoWriMo! I won the day before Thanksgiving during my #writestuff virtual write-in that I hosted with Burgess Taylor and Amy Tasukada. Here’s our write-in. If you still have some words to write, you can write along with us. Or you can check out my awesome (which is pretty debatable) victory dance.

I’m kicking around the idea of doing a weekly video of my editing process for this novel. Would y’all be interested in seeing that here? I’m still debating it, but leaning toward- sure. It’ll keep me accountable and I think it’ll help me to realize what works for me and what doesn’t. I edited my poetry collection and The Reverie Journal’s collection, but I haven’t edited an entire novel that was mine. I’m excited…and nervous. I talk about it a bit more here:

I also, verified my novel on camera, showed off some of my baking skills, and basically was all smiles for Thanksgiving and turkey day eve. I hope if you celebrate Thanksgiving that you were surrounded by loved ones and good food. (I suppose that’s just a good hope in general, Thanksgiving or not.)

That about lets you know what’s been happening on this little bit of the island for the past few weeks If you want to ask me questions for a Q&A video, plop your questions in the comments. I’d like to do a Q&A video sometime later this month.

How did your NaNo go? Did you refocus your energies on something else? Did you hit your goal? Let me know in the comments. I love hearing about your journeys.

Aloha, y’all

And the plot thickens…

Last week’s writing videos and Camp NaNo wrap-up videos focused on plot. It’s incredibly important for a novel to have certain points in the story to keep it moving forward. Not all novels are created equal, however, I’ve decided to implement some of the 8 point plot arc so that I can keep my story moving forward. Here’s the video where I tell more about what that is and what it means.

Then I gave an update on my CampNaNo journey. (Did you remember I was still doing it? Maybe not. I haven’t done the best job of posting updates on here, have I? Sorry I’ll get better!) I talk about what’s going on with my writing, how the inciting incident had to be discovered, and just all the things.

Thanks for watching everyone and being involved. Let me know how your writing is going, regardless of what you’re working on.

Aloha y’all!
