NaNoWriMo has begun

I’m knee-deep in writing and vlogging. Sorry that I haven’t been as active on here. That probably won’t change this month. But I thought I’d give you posts with my vlogs, perhaps every couple of days or so? I’m recording them daily, but I don’t want to flood your inboxes each day. That just seems a bit excessive to me.

I’m making daily videos, which means I’m talking a bit about life, a bit about my book, and giving some NaNo advice along the way.

The first video, I was feeling Halloween pull. It was a rough one, but I still managed to make my writing goal. I tell you about my night, show you my costume, and talk to you about doing Google Hangout write-ins. (Shameless Self Promotion: I’ll be hosting a Google Hangout on Wednesday, 11/5/15 at 9 p.m. EST with Burgess Taylor, Amy Tasukada, and Sara Crawford. You can either follow the Twitter hashtag #writestuff, my handle @penpaperpad, or like me on Facebook to get the link once I send it out. Oh yeah, or you could subscribe to my YouTube channel. That exists too. We’ll be answering questions and doing writing sprints. It should be a lot of fun!)

On with Day One!

Day Two I got weirdly emotional while I was writing and then I vlogged about it. Because I’m apparently a neurotic writer. I also offer a good metaphor for doing this NaNo thing and keeping at it. I think it’s pretty apt. And I really do believe that trying and giving it your best shot makes you a winner. Cheesy I know. But true.

Day two:

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo? If so, how’s your writing going…and if not…how is your writing going?

Aloha y’all!

Interviewing a poet

This month’s interview on PenPaperPad on Books was about poetry and activism. Len Lawson is a friend of mine, who lives in South Carolina. If you’re from the U.S., you’ve definitely heard about the different racial issues that have been cropping up from the AME church slaying of eight individuals to this week’s young lady being violently manhandled by a police officer in a classroom.

Len has been using his poetry as a way to reach out to people, engage in conversations that need to be started, and giving a voice to issues and concerns. He does this from a thoughtful place of being a student of life as well as a teacher in his day to day. Check out the video, we definitely have an interesting conversation.

Project #WriteTube Announcement!

These last couple of weeks I feel like I always have something new to announce. This time it’s something that’s happening on YouTube!

I’m collaborating with 11 other content creators. Over the course of the month we’ll be posting a video M/W/F. Each one will have be answering a different question. No two questions are the same. Some of them are about NaNoWriMo and others are about writing in general.

Here’s a video to tell you more:

And…just in case you’re interested, here’s the calendar of events!

Btw, be ready for a deluge of poetry! It’s time again for OctPoWriMo! I’ll be posting a poem per day and if you want to join in the fun, definitely check out the web site!
