Interviewing a poet

This month’s interview on PenPaperPad on Books was about poetry and activism. Len Lawson is a friend of mine, who lives in South Carolina. If you’re from the U.S., you’ve definitely heard about the different racial issues that have been cropping up from the AME church slaying of eight individuals to this week’s young lady being violently manhandled by a police officer in a classroom.

Len has been using his poetry as a way to reach out to people, engage in conversations that need to be started, and giving a voice to issues and concerns. He does this from a thoughtful place of being a student of life as well as a teacher in his day to day. Check out the video, we definitely have an interesting conversation.
