BLOOD ROSES IS OUT!

I can’t believe it finally happened.

Let me see…How many years has it been?

I think when I wrote and completed the first draft, it was in 2003 or something crazy like that. That draft was an absolute dumpster fire. It was contrived, I was trying to write romance (not for me), and it was just bad.

But I liked the characters, I liked Tiltonsville, West Virginia, and I loved that title.

I decided to give it another shot.

Then…I decided to give it another go during a National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I took some of the ideas that I had in the original, dumped everything else, and discovery wrote everything else. And from there it was a tale of writing, editing, and rewriting. Each rewrite got it closer to what I was picturing in my mind. With each rewrite, I learned more about my writing process, what it’s like to tell a story, and how freaking hard it is to tell a story.

blood roses and honeysuckles is a tale of love and loyalty, self-indulgent carelessness and what happens when intentions are true even in the methods aren’t.

But it’s so much fun, y’all. It’s an incredibly good time. Everything has solidified that I want to publish books for a living. I loved creating the cover with Dee from DA studios, even though I’m sure I drove her crazy with my indecision and constant questions. Finding an editor was a learning experience, but it was necessary. I found a few betas who gave me their views, which was fun.

And now…finally…blood roses & honeysuckles is here. It exists! For you. Right now it’s available for Kindle, Kobo, and Google Play. I’m going to put it out for Nook and a few other places as well. I’ll also be publishing the print edition later this month. To find out those updates when they happen, join my newsletter.

Thanks for being along with me for this journey. It’s been quite the ride, but I’m ready for more. How are you doing? Let me know in the comments. And if you pick up a copy of #BloodRoses, leave a review. It helps so much.

Aloha y’all!

Baby, I’m ready to go!- Writing Goals and Me

Aloha everyone!

I had so many people show concern for me, because of the volcano eruption, the earthquakes, and general horrifying events that never seem to quit. We are fine, all that volcanic activity has been on the Big Island. I made this map so people could know. I think we’re maybe a thousand miles away from all of that? There was a fear that a tsunami would result from all of that, but fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening either.

Do you remember that song from the 90s by Republica, Ready to Go? That’s how I’m feeling today. I’ve made a deadline for myself. I want to have my cozy mystery in my beta readers hands by June 10th. Not a lot of time, but incredibly doable.  (If you want to beta read it, let me know, I’ll add you to my secret group. Email me at: penpaperpad78@gmail.com)

Blood Roses and Honeysuckles is still a thing that exists in the world. I have one alpha and one beta taking it on at this time. They’re helping me to realize it’s not the flaming hot cheeto of sewage scum that I thought it was. I just needs some work.

Would you like to know more about my plans for the second quarter then check out this video. In this video, I’m also talking about a colleague of mine who is in a terrible situation and is trying their damnest to find their way. They are offering their editing services at an extremely discounted flat rate of $100. Watch the video. Pinned at the top of the comment section, there’s contact info.  If you’re in need of edits or proofreading, please contact them.

I’m asking everyone this week, is there anything that reminds you of me and the things I do? Whether it’s a color, a phrase, a song, whatever, no idea is too big or smile. This might come up again later. You may also see this question in other places.

Thank you so much for reading this and checking in with me.

Did you subscribe to the newsletter? If you haven’t, you should. There’s a monthly short story serial that happens in there. It’s a fun good time, or so I’ve heard.

How are you doing? Have you been writing? Working on something new these days? Tell me down in the comments, you know I want to know everything.

Take care!

Aloha y’all

Political Correctness in my writing?

reate few pAloha everyone! Let me go ahead and dust all of the cobwebs up in here.

Sorry little buddy...I'll get those for ya.

Sorry little buddy…I’ll get those for ya.

Today we’re going to talk about being politically correct in writing. Have you noticed the trend to curtail people and what they write, in fear of marginalizing people or making them feel uncomfortable? Today I decided I would discuss what I think about being politically correct in my work and a few possible lasting effects for not being PC. Of course most of this in a video. That seems to be my main means of communicating information these days. You know, other than the book. The book. Blood Roses and Honeysuckles. Remember that? The editor and the betas will be getting their copies this weekend. Also, the cover is being created as we speak. Crazily enough…we’re getting closer to a finished produced. Yikes. I’ll give you more info as we get closer. Of course, I tell my newsletter peeps things way earlier. If you want to join up, click here and fill out the form. You’ll get a letter once or twice a month.

But back to the video about being PC in my writing.

What’s your take on it? Let me know down in the comments.

Aloha y’all!
