A little holiday cheer and how to make a book tree

Hey everyone! I know this is a week where a lot of us are either wrapping up our holiday season or just gearing up for it. Regardless of what you celebrate, I wish you joy and happiness. Good tidings, good friends, good meals. Memories that will last a lifetime and joy to keep with you when things get blue.

The Mathmagician and I will probably be eating our holiday meal on the beach. Then it’s to the movie theater to watch The Hobbit. And finally lounging at the house, eating leftovers. We realized that since we’re not living near our family, we are free to do whatever we want–like eat on the beach and then geek out for three hours.

We’re making hometown classics, pepperoni rolls tonight. I’ll probably pop pictures of that on Instagram. You should follow me on there, if you don’t already. @penpaperpad.

I’ve been such a crumb bum lately. Just all bah humbug when is 2015 going to be here? I asked on my author page what holiday movies should I watch to get into the spirit of things. I decided on Bad Santa, because I’d heard it was funny and I knew that would be the only way to road The Mathmagician into watching a Christmas film. We giggled. I felt a little insulted, because I took a quiz a week ago or so and it said I was Bad Santa. (I’m not that bad, guys!) I was sad because John Ritter and Bernie Mac were in it, which of course got me on a tangent about mortality. However, at the end of the movie, I was smiling and feeling good. It was late around 1 am, but I am my mother’s daughter and we decorate at odd hours of the night.

I finally put up our book tree.

I love it!
Here’s the comparison between this year and last year:

The one on the left sat propped¬†up on my desk…well “writing table” from Walmart. I was surprised it held the books. I wrapped them in matching blue and white paper, because we could only use so few. I wanted it to look more festive. I topped with a key chain of a surfboard. There was a little flower hidden there and The Mathmagician’s tiny Buddha. Those things are damn near impossible to see in the pic. The second photo is this year’s tree. I’m not going to tell you how it was made. I’m going to show you.

Thinking about holidays and how to make a book tree

I hope that you have an amazing holiday. Did you do a tree this year? Something else? And what are your plans for your holiday? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Holidays y’all!¬†

Meeting online friends IRL

starr vid
Here’s the thing. I’ve mentioned my bloggy bestie approximately 1001 times on this blog. You may know her: Starr from The Insomniac’s Dream. Our friendship started, because we randomly met in an online blogging group. We laughed, so hard at each other’s shenanigans and antics. We’ve been angry together, shared our triumphs and heartbreaks. Through it all, we’d only seen each other through either our awesome profile pics or Google Hangouts.

Until my summer in West Virginia when I finally invaded her space. We did the girl thing of squeeing and laughing and making public spectacles of ourselves.

I only stayed for a few short nights, but before I left, we had to do something for prosperity sake. And a special treat for you guys, our readers.

We made this short guide about meeting online friends in real life, and how we failed pretty brilliantly at it. *Spoiler Alert: We still had a kickass time.*

Oh and be on the look at for the second part to this series, where we tell you about friendly omissions. It’ll be over at the Insomniac’s Dream, but don’t worry. I’ll send you over when she’s ready for ya.

Aloha y’all!

Hot and Humid Poets

Video with TedOne of the best things about going and visiting West Virginia is connecting with old friends. I’ve mentioned Ted on here several times. He’s one of my closest friends, and is my writing spirit animal. We chatted on my channel about this group we helped to form, poetry in general and so much more. In fact, I had to whittle down 30 minutes to this. So if we seem long-winded…blame it on the humidity. It makes us talkative.
