A Year of Compassion #1000Speak

1000 speak
It was only supposed to be for one day. One day where bloggers, vloggers, writers, poets, and folks in general came together to try to bring a little light into the universe. Just one day to make a change the way we know how. Our words. .

Then people started showing up. More than we’d ever imagined. They enthusiasm was infectious. I got caught up in it. I even volunteered to make a video that felt way beyond my skill set at the time, but I wanted to do it. Needed to do it. That too was a learning experience for me. These mostly strangers bonded over a need to make the world happier. One little corner of the internet at a time. They wanted to be a part of this village. They wanted to show the world that there’s more than violence, hate, hurt, and harm.

There’s love here. Peace. Hope. Quiet whispered prayers at night. A mother kissing a child’s brow. A father tickling a toddler to giggles. Brothers and sisters kicking up sand and laughing. Friends sharing a smile. Lovers embracing under a sunny sky. A community across a global scale sharing in a hope, that we can be that change we want to see. We can bring some happiness into the world.

We must remind ourselves and each other that life is dark, but there is light too. We’re programmed as people to remember the negative. The hurts. The bad things. Remembering those bad things means potentially avoiding pain in the future, so our minds wraps itself around the negative and holds on too tightly. We have to breathe deeply and put ourselves in a more positive state of mind. Turn away from the Dark Side and embrace the force. So to speak.

For a year, we’ve worked on that. Talking about different aspects of that light like compassion, hope, and love. Bringing together people from all over the world, who just want to share joy instead of tears.

It was only supposed to be one day. It’s been a year. A year in compassion. And I’m so proud to have been a part of this journey.

  1. I couldn’t believe how it all unfolded last year. It was an honour to witness. I wish the energy could have been kept going, but it has dwindled some since then, but only in numbers. Those who have been committed to the cause from the start have been champions of compassion and I have been lucky to be among you all. Thank you.

  2. A gorgeous post, Tamara. As Yvonne said in her comment, the imagery is lovely! I love this movement too, I’ve found some beautiful friends, read lots of heartwarming (heartbreaking) posts. 1000speak is my favorite time of the bloggy month πŸ™‚

  3. That day was truly so overwhelming and exciting! πŸ™‚ I still remember that wonderful video that you made!

  4. It really is amazing how this has all unfolded. I could never have imagined how this would evolve and I’m so glad to be part of it.

  5. Tamara, this is the first I’ve heard of this, and I wish I could have been a part of it all year long, but I will do what I can now. This is awesome! You’re such an inspiration to many!!

  6. Love the imagery in your post Tamara! And yes, we are, at least at some level programmed to look for the negative to protect ourselves, but as you say when we hold it too tightly it starts to hurt and so it’s good to look for the light.

I’m so happy that you are part of 1000 Voices and are still here! We may have fewer posts this year, but that just means we need to shine our light more brightly.
