NaNoWriMo Update

Well, NaNoWriMo is well underway. I am a little behind on my word count, but I’m keeping my goal in mind. It’s been hard to keep my word count up, so this week, I’ll be attending three Write-Ins. Write-Ins are an opportunity for fellow-NaNo-ers to get together and do little writing exercises and whatnot to increase word count. It also gives what is notoriously a solitary i.e. writing a social outlet. The first time I attempted NaNoWriMo, I did not try any of this out. I think it’ll be a good way for me to connect with some writers, and to get past these writing humps that I’m facing. Right now, I have some interesting story-lines, but I need to work on transitioning from one big scene to the next. It’s like you can’t immediately go from chasing an alien in a hijacked Death Star to having a big cathartic cry with your father about being picked on in grade school for having six toes–neither of which are in my book. You know what I mean.
Are any of you doing the November challenge? How far along are you? I hope you’re having a good time with it. Maybe you can try it next year. Hey, I’ll let you know how the Write-Ins go this week. I tried to go yesterday, but being new to this area, I sometimes get lost. Google maps took me in the opposite direction, and I had no idea where the meeting place was. After calling it a day, I did have a tasty dinner at Ka’Kaako Kitchen. Mmmm…Hawaiian pulled pork BBQ (sorry vegetarians!)
Alright everyone, look for an update late this week.
Aloha ya’ll!

I’m participating for the first time. Just cracked 23,000 last night. I love the write-ins, they’re so much fun! Not to mention productive.

That’s exciting to hear! My word-count definitely needs a shot in the arm. I think that the write-ins may be the way to go. My count is about half of yours, but I’ve got some momentum on writing that I’m definitely going to capitalize on.
